Blogging from IRA

I hope that many fellow authors from Maupin and wonderful educators and literacy advocates attending the International Reading Association conference in beautiful Orlando FL will join this conversation.

The IRA experience is always incredible.  Pop in when you have a few moments and share one tidbit on this blog about what you are learning, terrific people you are meeting, and what you will take back to your district as a result of your experience!

I'd like to give a special invite out to attendees to participate in the author panels (new this year at IRA).  I'm facilitating one with Eileen Christelow, Lester Laminack, Bob Shea, Judy Schachner and Lola Schaefer on Monday afternoon from 3-4PM.  This is especially targeted for preK and kindergarten!  It will be a blast!

Come join the conversation!

A big, big thank you for the wonderful picture book authors, Bob Shea, Eileen Christelow, Lester Laminack, Judy Schachner and Lola Schaefer who were part of the early childhood author panel yesterday. About 1/3 of the audience were teachers of children above the PreK-K window, using these delightful picture books to strategically teach with their older students.

What we heard again and again from these authors is the need to engage young children with delightful stories and to get them writing and reading as a means of self-exploration and learning.

Many of these authors have books available at their publisher's booths (see the IRA Stars booklet of author appearances for detailsl) - drop by for a visit!
